Fine Art Oil Paintings, prints and cards
I am definitely a landscape realist, with hopes of learning to incorporate some impressionistic style. Art is a story, a feeling, an inspiration to convey, and contribute. The most worthy contribution of my art is not the focus of talent and technique, but rather the contribution I can make to the viewer of the art. I want my art to be an encouragement, a blessing, and a good experience. "….whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things". Php 4:8 The Universe is the Lord’s canvas. John 3:16
About
As an immigrant from Europe, early impressions of art came from Norman Rockwell for his ability to communicate stories through his art. Since moving to the Pee Dee region, visiting art galleries, the Piccolo Spoleto open-air artist exhibit, I have been inspired to study the coastal areas, salt marshes, and swamps. I enjoy using the palette knife to layer colors, form shapes, and depth in my ocean and water scenes. I love using oils because of their versatility to create new techniques. Even the consistency of the paint can inspire amazing techniques and effects.
I painted as a youth under my dad's instruction, and a little in college, but then I dropped my paintbrush for some 35 years until 2016. That year, I had a open heart surgery, my daughter bought me paints, easel and canvases to bring back an old hobby. I loved it! I love painting for itself, but have been particularly blessed by doing some paintings of my beautiful Alma Mater, Berry College in Rome, Georgia. My cards and some prints are being sold now at the Berry Bookstore, The Shipyard. It is a beautiful place.
I continue to paint because I enjoy it so much. Being at Camden Art Shoppes has helped me to share my work with others, while getting to know fellow artists, appreciating all different types of talent and beauty. The Lord has blessed me with a love of people, and of His beautiful world, and my oil painting allows me the joy of enjoying both at the same time. See more of my work at ArtbyHorst.com. Also on Facebook under the same name. Take care and God bless!
