Darlene Faircloth Mike Fowle
High Fired Clay and Kiln Fired Fused Glass
Our studio is a bright, creative workspace where color, texture, and imagination come together. In one half of the room, sheets of vibrant glass line the shelves waiting to be cut, layered, and fused into luminous art pieces. Across the studio, sculpting tables are scattered with clay tools and half‑finished animal figures. Expressive faces and charming personalities modeled by hand. Each sculpture begins as a simple lump of clay and slowly becomes a character with its own story.
Classes & Mentoring: Mike does residencies in schools and may consider teaching clay animal sculpture at the shop
About
Darlene Faircloth has always been completely mesmerized by colorful glass and dreamed of creating glass art. Working as a computer programmer and raising a family left little time to create art but after retirement, she began painting Bob Ross style landscapes, having always been inspired by nature. More recently she finds herself happily creating magical dragonflies, butterflies, landscapes and seascapes from fused glass.
Mike Fowle has been producing his unique artwork for over fifty years. Self taught, his approach to creating and the use of materials has no boundaries. His work in clay, metal, and found objects exemplify his skill, humor, joy for life, and insight to the creative process. These works have been widely exhibited, have become public art and are in many, many private collections. As a teaching artist Mike strives to convey that art has limitless possibilities and there are no problems only solutions.
Together in their Hartsville, SC studio, they create all sorts of interesting clay pieces, glass pieces, and even combined glazed clay and glass pieces!
