My name is Ericka, and I’m the artist and owner behind PetalTwig Co, a small art studio dedicated to bringing warmth, comfort, and creativity into people’s lives. I’m a self-employed polymer clay artist who creates cozy, cottagecore-inspired pieces such as miniature animal charms, desk companions, and handmade sculptures. Alongside my clay work, I also create digital art, paintings, and fiber pieces, all inspired by nature, animals, and my love for Japanese and Vietnamese culture.
Through my work, I aim to sculpt hope and happiness for life’s toughest moments. I create art with the intention of offering quiet comfort, connection, and joy through gentle details and thoughtful craftsmanship. I’ve hosted workshops, shared my work at conventions, and had pieces displayed internationally, including in Tokyo.
My art is more than a business to me—it’s about building community, kindness, and moments of joy through creativity.
Mediums, Techniques, Genres
I’m a multidisciplinary artist working with polymer clay, digital illustration, ink, paint, and fiber arts. My process centers on hand-sculpting and illustrative techniques, focusing on fine details, soft textures, and gentle, intentional color palettes. I often blend sculptural and drawn elements to create small, comforting pieces meant to be held, displayed, and cherished.
Inspired by Japanese and Vietnamese aesthetics, cottagecore, and traditional ink art such as sumi-e, my work features delicate animals, nature-inspired forms, and whimsical characters. At the heart of everything I create is the intention to sculpt hope and happiness for life’s toughest moments; offering quiet comfort, warmth, and a sense of peace through thoughtful, handmade art.
Teaching
I’ve been an art teacher for about two years at two homeschool academies and currently teach at an academy, working with students from ages two through high school. I love inspiring the younger generation to explore their creativity and express themselves through art. I plan to offer group classes, guiding students in hands-on projects while helping them build confidence, imagination, and a love for making.
Art Training
I have been passionate about art from a young age, taking art classes throughout high school and continuing my training with international artists. I studied under Chris Hagebak, a sumi-e specialist, and had the honor of exhibiting my work with him in Tokyo, Japan, where I also received a certificate of recognition. While I do not hold a formal art degree, I have taken extensive courses in a variety of artistic mediums and techniques. I am currently expanding my skills through online courses toward a diploma in graphic design, continuing to grow and refine my artistic practice.
Inspirations and Influences
My work is deeply inspired by Japanese culture, traditional sumi-e techniques, and contemporary online artists. Studying under Chris Hagebak shaped my approach to composition, brushwork, and the delicate balance of detail and simplicity. Online artists such as Uncomfy and Leechuts also inspire my color choices, whimsical storytelling, and imaginative characters. Together, these influences help me blend traditional and modern techniques into art that feels personal, comforting, and full of quiet life.
Art Awards
I had the incredible opportunity to study under Chris Hagebak, a sumi-e specialist, and to exhibit my work with him in Tokyo, Japan. My artwork was selected for the exhibition, and I received a certificate recognizing my achievement. This experience was a meaningful milestone in my artistic journey, reflecting years of dedication and the skills I have cultivated through hands-on practice.
Other
I grew up in a small town just outside of Atlanta, Georgia, with my parents and two brothers, who always encouraged my love for art. I became an art apprentice in high school and later taught at a homeschool academy. I’m married to my amazing husband, and we have two cats and our playful dog, Fred. We recently moved to South Carolina.
My favorite hobbies include making art, spending time outdoors, exploring art fairs, and vlogging. I’m also a content creator and share my artistic journey through YouTube vlogs.
My goals for being part of the gallery are to connect with the creative community and meet other artists and makers. I hope to share my work with new audiences and build meaningful connections with those who appreciate art. I also want the gallery to be a space where I can share my creativity, inspire others, and take time to focus on creating in a supportive, welcoming environment.
